The Fraunhofer IMWS has powerful, ultra-modern equipment available that we use to determine the microstructure of materials, which enables us to draw conclusions on the relationships between microstructures and their properties. In the area of corrosion measurements, this includes:
- Standard tests and custom tests to trigger electrochemical /chemical corrosion processes
o Salt spray test (DIN EN 60068-2-52)
o Damp heat test (DIN EN 60068-2-67)
o Mixed flowing gas test / 4-component mixed flowing gas test (DIN EN 60068-2-42)
o Combined tests with electrically active circuits
o Electrochemical tests, including tests using miniaturized measurement systems
- SEM / EDS / WDS to analyze corrosion processes from the macro to the micro scale
- High throughput analysis of chips and packages using laser FIB and plasma FIB methods
- TEM / TEM-EDS to analyze corrosion progression mechanisms at the submicro scale
- TOF-SIMS / XPS / XRF / ICP-MS / ICP-OES to analyze the ion content in materials and on surfaces
