The properties of most materials are largely determined by two influencing variables. One is the chemical composition and the other is the micro- and nanostructure. We devote ourselves to both and thus further develop existing glasses and glass-ceramics or develop completely new materials. For this purpose, inorganic glasses are manufactured to a precise fit so that the desired property profiles (e.g. thermal expansion, fluorescence, sinterability, etc.) are created. The glasses are fundamentally examined with regard to their physical properties and their behavior when heated and can then be converted into glass ceramics through targeted heat treatments. The micro- and nanostructure of these materials determines their properties and can be examined in detail using high-resolution analysis, e.g. transmission electron microscopy.
