BJB GmbH & Co. KG

“We have been working with the Fraunhofer Application Center for Inorganic Phosphors and supporting its development since the year it was founded. With the Application Center, we have gained a strategically important partner for the photometric evaluation of optics. We particularly appreciate the short processing time of orders and the high flexibility in processing even short-term orders.”

“I particularly appreciate the focus on application-oriented research in the collaboration with Fraunhofer. For example, in the HipE research project (highly innovative pixelated phosphors for laser-based emissions in headlights) we are jointly developing a prototype for a high-resolution headlight with a laser light source. The project aims to address the more stringent requirements of headlights. In addition to more compact dimensions and improved efficiency, we especially want to increase lighting quality for greater safety. The technologies developed in the project should reach series maturity as well. The cooperation is helping to bundle different competences and to show innovative results even faster.”

“One approach to mastering the technical challenges of LEDs is the thermographic evaluation of LED optics. We have been conducting research in this field for a while now in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Application Center for Inorganic Phosphors. The resulting findings are helping to optimize our products for the future at an early stage.”

Green Photonics Young Talent Award at the Hannover Messe

Sebastian Loos from the University of Applied Sciences South Westphalia received the Green Photonics Young Talent Award for his master thesis on barium borate glasses. With his thesis, the physicist demonstrated the potential of barium borate glasses as encapsulation material in w-LEDs. These have advantages over conventionally doped glasses in terms of lighting quality and temperature resistance.
