The possible uses of photovoltaics in extreme climates were the focal topic of the PV Days 2016 at the Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaics CSP in Halle (Saale). At the two-day conference, around 150 experts discussed the most important trends of the global markets in the photovoltaics industry and the most recent research results.
The PV Days, held for the third time, brought together leading specialists from research establishments and industry at the Fraunhofer CSP. Around 150 participants from 14 countries participated this year, a total of 37 companies and 22 research establishments/universities were represented at the conference
The topics of the numerous talks included, among other things, wafer technology, plasma texturing, building-integrated photovoltaics, new concepts for circuit connections and passivation and light-induced degradation. The participants were also able to take a look at the laboratories of the Fraunhofer CSP in guided tours.
Two sessions were dedicated to the possible uses and yields of photovoltaic installations in extreme climates. These issues were also the focus of the subsequent podium discussion in which Benjamin Figgis (Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute QEERI), Prof. Ralph Gottschalg (Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology CREST), Dr. Florian Holzapfel (Calyxo Gmbh) and Zakaria Naimi (Institute of Research in Solar Energy and New Energies IRESEN) participated.
