Fraunhofer Rare Earths Lighthouse Project
Fraunhofer Institutes are developing more efficient manufacturing processes for high-performance magnets, are optimizing their component design and are researching into recycling possibilities. The objective is to halve the primary requirements for heavy rare earth elements in two demonstrator permanent magnets. The Fraunhofer IMWS is searching for substitution magnetic materials, where possible without rare earth elements, with material simulation based on electron theory and material characterization using the electron microscope.
