This talk is focusing on new approaches towards a better understanding of rubber composites for tire treads. Recent studies at Fraunhofer IMWS have shown that glassy rubber bridges being part of the filler network are common origin of major contributions to dissipation and reinforcement in rubber composites. The consequences of this finding towards the optimization of rubber composites for tire treads will be highlighted. The experimental methods used at Fraunhofer IMWS to gain further insights and developed approaches to quantify main influencing factors will be discussed.
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Mario Beiner
The expert session is part of our "Materials Insights 20 | 21" series in which we introduce some of the latest highlights of our research focused on current and future needs in industry. Each session provides a 20 minute presentation from one of our experts and (at least) 21 minutes of discussion with the interested parties from industry and science.
