Frank Altmann is the new spokesman for the "Quality and Reliability of Integrated Circuits" technical committee in the "Micro- and Nanoelectronics" division of the Information Technology Society (ITG) in the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE). The Head of the Business Unit "Electronic Materials and Components" at the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS in Halle (Saale) is working within the committee to further improve the quality and reliability of integrated circuits.
The technical committee is one of eight within the division and in turn is composed of seven technical groups, covering the entire value chain from chip level to package to electronic assembly. Key topics in the technical committee are fault localization in electronic components, failure analysis strategies, the reliability of active electronic components, wafer level reliability and qualification, and automotive requirements for semiconductor solutions along the supply chain. "For modern microelectronics, it is of elementary importance to understand failure mechanisms and to continuously improve the reliability of new, highly integrated components as well. I am therefore very pleased to be able to contribute to this with this appointment together with many highly qualified and very committed colleagues," says Altmann.
The physicist has headed the Business Unit "Electronic Materials and Components" at the Fraunhofer IMWS since 2019 and also the group "Diagnostics of Semiconductor Technologies" since 2006. Since 2007, he has been a lecturer at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences in the master's program "Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Physical Engineering".
The VDE, headquartered in Frankfurt/Main, offers a network combining science, standardization, testing, certification and application consulting under one roof. The Information Technology Society (ITG) in the VDE is the national association of all those working in the field of information technology in business, administration, teaching and research and science and is the oldest professional society in the VDE.
